In 2010 Easter, I traveled to the Netherlands and Belgium. This time I was given a new attitude as for a backpacker. Although I am used to go to libraries in my hometown, Taiwan, visiting library in a travel is still fresh for me. In fact, I was looking for a free restroom in the area around Amsterdam Central Station. Suddenly I saw a big building which people went in and out frequently.
'A free restroom might be provided in this place.' I thought.
After an overview and questioned a staff, I just knew this is a library while this word in Dutch is 'bibliotheek'. I used this knowledge to recognise every library in every city during this trip, it is quite useful!
This building was established in a non-typical concept for its exterior. The outstanding structural appearance is extreme strong and impressive to everyone who has never seen this sort of architecture as a library. It expresses a personality different with traditional libraries.
The interior design is very modern and simple. I tend to believe most people from other place can not realise what this place is at the first sight.
